Katie,

What a great video! I have tried videos a couple of times but wasn’t very good at it. I believe these tips will help a lot and just by watching you put all the steps into action will benefit me even more. I think that it is like a “shock sydrome” knowing that the world is watching for any great information I have to offer but in the proccess they will see me any/or all the mistakes I will make.

The most important tip for me is to organize my thoughts into key points and put them in an outline, then practice what I am going to say about those key points, and then just go for it!

Thank You,

Sherry Prince

Hi Sherry,

Video is certainly a whole different world because everyone is watching. Doing bullet points is great to help you cover what you would like to and stay on the topic. Its easy to wander of.

Practice is great to as you know.

Just know this also, you will probably hate how your videos turn out or how you look in videos. Just go with it.

Your still ahead of all the people who are afraid to do it.

Many times I find myself just hating what I did, said, or how things looked. I really don’t like watching myself =o).

Good luck.

Hey Katie,

Your tips are awesome. Getting over stage fright can be tough, but I try to imagine a friend or one of my kids behind the camera so it makes it a little easier. Think it’s time for a new camera too :) Thanks for sharing this info with us.

How do you gather a courage to be in the front of the camera?
How do you break thro a phobia of being on screen?
Wd you suggest any classes / coaching?

Just do it!

Push yourself over the edge. Your first round of videos might be a little rough and you learn as you go. You then watch others and see what you like about theirs and what you don’t like.

But you just have to take your first jump and don’t turn back.

Remember this tip. You are always more critical of yourself then others are of you.

Respoding to My 10 Most Powerful Video Marketing Tips: Much enjoyed! Great value!

Questions #8: In posting an article, there is an author’s box (the last paragraph) in which you may use two links, and this is where your “Call to Action” is given. This, then, is the same for video marketing?

When does your video get submitted to directories (is this via Traffic Geyser?)

An extended question: When does an article get submitted to article directories? When/where do the search engines come in contact with it?
.-= Lottie Jenvey´s last blog ..Anti-Aging Secrets and You =-.

Reply

Katie Freiling June 4, 2010 at 9:44 am

Hi Lottie, no, the author’s box is not where I leave a call to action, it’s just at the end of the video or the end of the post. You submit your video to traffic geyser after you get it edited and published. :)

Hi Katie, I’m a new subscriber and am enjoying your blog and videos. In this marketing video you did, I notice it is 17 minutes and was wondering if that is not too long for YouTube, as I thought 10 minutes was the longest you could upload. Would you ever consider breaking it up into 10 parts, for example? I was also wondering about your thoughts on Vimeo vs. YouTube, and also if you plan on doing a video about interviewing others. I recently interviewed an author and did some research on best practices, and much of what I read said that in the case of the interview, for the subject to actually not look at the camera, otherwise it would feel artificial or contrived.

Thanks a lot and looking forward to more!
PS A note about Flip, if you use their movie making software you really need a fairly new computer. My Mac is 4 years old and the software does not work, takes forever to upload files, so I use a different camera and iMovie.

Carrie… Yes, since this video was longer than 10 mins, I used Viddler. You can do a two part series as well :)

Reply

TJ Chambers July 21, 2010 at 11:24 am

A note about youtube. Some accounts, I’m not sure if it is the age or what, but they can upload videos longer then 10 minutes.

Example, I have some videos that are over an hour on my account.

It says they can only be 10 minutes but I uploaded an hour long video with no rejection.

I dont know if this is for accounts that were created before a certain time or have a certain amount of videos up or what.

The way I found out was because I’m a bit of a rebel. I said, hmm, let me see if i can upload a video more than 10 minutes. And I did.

So feel free to give it a try. The max for 10 minutes I think is something like 10:05 or 10:15. So if you upload a 11 minute video and you are successful, then you will know.

Hi Katie, great post thanks a lot. Katie I have been following you for some time so a lot of the information you give here I have heard from you before and it has been a good memort jogger. But I am still left with the same question and I don’t know why I didn’t ask you sooner; I get really confused between viddler, vimeo, camtasia etc. I know that if you upload to You Tube you can then embed from that site. However if you just want to create videos for just your blog or maybe for training purposes which do you use? Some are free some you have to pay for. I just don’t understand the difference. Your video here on this post for example is very good quality. Did you just upload this from your computer using Vipers video quicktags only?
Thanks for all the value you bring.

If you want the vids to be private (for a product or paying members area) then you host it yourself using ezs3 or another private hosting company. Otherwise, youtube is great as well as many others. This video is hosted on Viddler (another free site) because it’s longer than 10 mins. (youtube cuts you off at 10 mins). Hope this helps!

Excellent video, Katie. Great tips and incredible value. I have always been so impressed by your video’s since I discovered you blog last summer. I have been a video editor in broadcast TV for over 10 years, and you definitely nailed it with the these 10 tips. Good lighting is a must and I’m so glad you mention it. There are some additional things to take into account when shooting outdoors, like camera placement in regards to the sun. Audio is another important item. The Flip has a very good omnidirectional mic, and its best to use it like you do by having it as close to you as you can. This cuts down on room echo. The Kodak Zi8 is just like the Flip, but it allows you to plug in a mic, which is always the best to use when and if you can. Also, great tips abut being yourself in front of the camera and talking to it as if you are talking to your best friend a maintaining eye contact with the camera lens. I have coached many people on so many video shoots over the years, and this is the number one issue that comes up over and over again. Once you do a few videos, it gets much easier .
So, again, thanks for another great video and for all the great stuff you have shared with us. I was in your Blog Mastery Intensive, and I am finally getting rocking with my blog (had to take care of some personal family stuff). So I am so excited. Keep an eye out because I am getting ready to make some waves. And I have you (among others) to thank! You have no idea how much I appreciate you.

Hey Katie,

Another insightful video. Thank you for sharing more great tips. I have 2 questions for you.

I’m a little confused by one comment you made. When you say to “host the video on your site”, do you mean to upload & stream directly from your web host? Or use the embed feature from YouTube, Viddler, etc? Just want to make sure.

And can you tell me when it’s best to host a video on your website rather than embed? I have seen some websites – such as The Unified Tribe – host videos via a private service. When do you feel that’s the best option? When do you NOT want your videos all over the networks?

Thanks again for all you do. It’s always a pleasure to learn from you. You’re awesome!

Peace,
Lauren

Yes, host it on Youtube or others and them embed them on your site… The only time you’d want to do private videos is if you don’t want them to be public for any reason (which is why the Unified Tribe uses private videos… We are a private, members only membership site). :)
