Establishing your own personal brand is THE most profitable, long-term, and stable asset you could ever possibly create for yourself online. You position yourself as the expert or guru in a very specific niche and become the source of the best, most valuable content and information for your audience…

But how do you discover a good niche?

I’ve created this video for you down below to give you some tips and ideas for finding the best niche for you…

YouTube Preview Image

So again…

  • What are you passionate about?
  • What do you love to learn about?
  • What are you good at?
  • What are your best talents and skills?
  • What do you feel is your contribution to the planet and the world?
  • Take these ideas and find out if there’s a market… Would other people want to know this information?
  • And if they do, is the market large enough? (Clickbank.com is an amazing resource to see if your niche has affiliate products you could possibly promote)…

But the most important thing is… Make sure you choose something that you really LOVE.  Do what you love, love what you do, and use a blog and social media to share it with the world!

;-)

I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment down below and let me know what your niche is if you already have one and if not, let me know what ideas you’re brainstorming!  So me, for example, my niche is personal development and online marketing… What’s yours?

Thanks for the info! A niche is a place where you can make a lot of money. And if you follow Katie’s words, than you’ll see that it works.

If you are involved in MLM and your company has a lot of products (Herbalife, Neways,…) than see if you can find a good niche to promote 1 or 2 products (skincare for example).

Wonderful advice again Katie and so very, very true!

Simply put, you need to love what you do and promote yourself as an expert within your niche. Make sure to spend time self-evaluating yourself to help you really determine what your niche is and how you can establish yourself as an expert. Do not discount this as it is highly important and should be taken seriously before you begin.

With me, I’m passionate about the Internet and social media. As the owner of a successful web design and multimedia firm, I find joy out of sharing that knowledge with others to help them succeed. Specifically in the area of search engine optimization and online branding.

Great post! Thanks for sharing Katie!

Katie, great advice. I think this is one of the hardest parts of marketing on the Internet if you don’t already know what your niche is.

Some people come into this business already knowing what they want to do online, but there are others that just know that the Internet is the place to be and they want to market online, but they don’t have any idea what to market.

Your advice is good, particulary the advice to just do what you love. Everyone has SOMETHING they are passionate about.

Thanks for the post, it’s most excellent.

Hi Katie once again GREAT POST..I learn from you everytime.. Well since the Blog Mastery Porgram Ive been head over heels in love with Branding and dicovering you Niche. I started to understand a lot of different things that were not clear to me before..I found this and it toally clikced to me along with the teachings you provided for us Here it is, “Personal branding is not just about finding a niche, become an expert, and marketing yourself to others. While these are part of any personal branding journey, on a more fundamental level personal branding is a form of psychological evolution that you go through as you begin developing a deeper relationship with yourself.
By getting to know who you are, what is important to you, and where you want to go, you put yourself on a path towards creating a stronger sense of self, which in turn will eventually lead to a much stronger personal brand.
    Answer these questions:
    1. What are my five favorite activities?
    2. What are the top five personality attributes I’d use to describe myself?
3.What are the top five personality attributes that others use to describe me?
    4. What are the key elements of a successful career in your opinion?”
Remember: Branding its not performing a specific task or being in certain occupation or living in specific location.
Its about sharing yourself in creative, loving way using the skills and interest that are inherently part of you. Hope this makes sense..My niche is Entrepreneurship & Personal Development.
Thanks for all your teachings Katie.

      Hi Therese Miu,

I liked what you had to say, it made perfect sense to me!

What are the steps towards creating my own site… I’m a virgin to this as you can tell from the question:-)

      When i answered the questions above it was much the same as you… At the moment i have a Caribbean Restaurant in Dubai, the first in the Dubai and most likely the UAE… I was thinking would that speciality be too narrow? then a flash of ideas came to me and i thought;
I love to learn about Spirituality, Quantum Physics, Personal Development and helping others to come wake up to what was already within them e.g. training, coaching, and mentoring.. its funny with all of this there must be something i could do – right? I have a friend who i think is doing something similar to this pay by clicks and a created website… the thing is – from reading what you’ve said above, i dont feel its right to grow by preaching down on people.. whereby it gives you the holyah than thou… yes, most people (or not)would like to reach the top of their ‘hierachy of needs’ (Maslow) and for me it would be along the Neil Donald Walsh or Debbie Ford and even Oprah Winfery, Russell Simmons approach…which to me is quietly confident and oozing with love and welcoming energy…

Wow, i didnt know i had so much to write…! anyway i’d love to hear from you on this…

      Stay blessed and In gratitude,

    Hi Katie -

    I Just asked AskOxford.com what niche/neesh, nitch/ IS?

    • noun 1 a shallow recess, especially one in a wall to display an ornament. 2 (one’s niche) a comfortable or suitable position in life. 3 a specialized but profitable corner of the market. 4 Ecology a role taken by a type of organism within its community.

    — ORIGIN French, ‘recess’, from Latin nidus ‘nest’.

My nidus ‘nest’ :) is Personal Branding and Social Media with Online Marketing thrown in :)

I know that I am passionate about being friendly, professional, helpful and disciplined. I sometimes struggle to get motivated with this, but today it just flowed.

Personal branding is the first step to make you stand out among the crowd. It gives you an identity that makes you different among the numerous marketers online. Indeed, choosing your niche is crucial cause it will generally play the big role in establishing your unique identity.

The questions that were provided are thought provoking. Thanks Katie for the post.

It is recommended to first answer them, before starting a plan. Aside from this, you should also think of something that is beneficial for your future audience? What are people looking for? Considering your targeted audience aside from your strengths will eventually lead you to something out of nothing. ss

    Katie,

Great topic, by far one of my favorites… I had a hard time understanding this concept at first and it seems like some people are confused. If it helps here’s how you can think of it..

Let’s say you are in real estate. You can brand yourself as a real estate investor/agent. Your niche, however, could be that you specialize in working with first time homebuyers or move up buyers. Or you could specialize in listings which can be broken down into different markets. Maybe you specialize on short sales or foreclosures and bank owned. Heck, there’s now green agents!!

Hope this helped and not further confused the topic..

Great content Katie…. Passion is so critical to be successful in developing one’s Niche. If you are not passionate about the topic, then it soon will become a job or chore. I also like the premise of what kind of contribution do you want to make to the world. That concept can really fuel one’s desire to put themselves out there and make a difference and at the same time set themselves apart in their Niche catagory.
