When you have new visitors come to your site, one of the very first things they will do is click on your “About Me” page… They’re gonna want to know more about you!  So it makes sense to have a super compelling story that builds rapport, trust, and credibility, right?

In the video below, I share with you some of the fundamentals to crafting an “About Me” story that connects with your readers, encourages them to keep following you, and compels them to take action!

So… Another thing I want to add here is feel free to get creative!  Your “About Me” page does not need to look just like mine… Give it your own style and flair! Be you!  Some of you may want to elaborate a bit more on your personal story or maybe link out to different posts that really represent your style and who you are as a leader… What I’ve shared today is pretty much a baseline that you can work off of.

Ok, admit it… When you see good testimonials on a blog, a product, or a service… you pay more attention, right? Well of course you do!  

It’s a natural phenomenon that happens when you see other people sharing praise, appreciation, or results for a person, product, or service… And it’s called social proof.  When you have great social proof on your blog, your visitors are much more likely to want to follow you, listen to you, and buy from you because they SEE that what you are sharing is really valuable!

Even if you don’t have a product or service of your own just yet… You can still simply and easily grab testimonials from Twitter and add them to your blog whenever someone sends you a “tweet” that sings your praises!

When you’re a blogger or social media marketer, your mission is really to become a producer of valuable content in the form of videos, blog posts, or articles… Value means sharing tips, strategies, ideas, or concepts that will help improve the lives or businesses of others.  

As a social media and blogging coach, one of the most common questions I get asked is, ‘Katie, how do I come up with new content ideas?’  

This is where most new bloggers get totally stuck… But coming up with new content ideas is actually fun and easy when you have the right strategies and tips to guide you along.  So today, I’d like to share a few juicy strategies for creating magnetic blog posts and videos to help YOU along your journey to becoming a content-creating superstar!

Ok, so matter what your niche is, you can always get inspiration for content ideas in your daily life… As you read books, ebooks, go to seminars, watch movies, have conversations with friends, etc, you can train your mind to always be thinking about ways to turn these experiences and learned skills into content.  I keep a running journal of content ideas as I come up with them throughout my day, so that when it comes time to sit down and create a video or a post, I have a whole list of ideas to choose from.

For example, let’s say you you just went snowboarding last weekend…  And your niche is teaching people about online marketing.  You can create a post about your experience snowboarding and how certain principles and concepts also apply to online marketing.  So maybe you could talk about how snowboarding:

• Takes a certain amount of courage and risk, just like starting your own business.
• Requires that you stay focused and in the present moment because distractions can cause an accident… And being truly effective and successful as an entrepreneur also requires present moment awareness and focus.
• While learning to snowboard, it is inevitable that you will fall down, but what’s important is that you pick yourself back and up and keep going… In business, you will experience setbacks here and there when you’re learning and growing, but as long as failure isn’t an option, you just need to pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and continue full speed ahead.

So use your own life as continual inspiration!  Just make sure you always apply the ideas and insights you come across to your specific niche and how it benefits your readers or followers.  And as you learn or come across new information, turn around and share it!

So now that you’ve got an idea for how to come up with the inspiration behind your content, let’s talk about ideas for how to structure it… Below are 5 high-converting and extremely powerful strategies for delivering your content…

1.  Create a ‘How To’ post or video:  Teach something!  Most people are always eager to learn new information and strategies that will help them get to where they want to be in life. For example, ‘How To Create And Optimize Your Facebook Fan Page.’

2.  Make A List:  List reasons, steps, excuses, biggest mistakes, top strategies, etc.  For example, ‘5 Steps To Cultivating Authentic Power‘.

3.  Ask A Question:  Questions automatically get the brain to produce an answer, whether internally or out loud.  Asking a question in a blog post or video encourages people to want to read or watch the content and contribute their answer!  For example, ‘What Does True Freedom Mean To You?‘

4.  Give A Direct Benefit:  Clearly stating the benefit in your blog post or video title is very powerful and will definitely help you captivate a larger audience.  For example, ‘2 Tips To Unblock Your Energy For Increased Clarity And Creativity‘.  In this example, having more clarity and creativity is the direct benefit to the reader.

5.  Define Or Reveal Something:  This type of post or video is great for peaking curiosity.  For example, ‘The Secret To Doubling Your Productivity And Success in 2010.‘

So there you have it… Take these ideas and run with it!  Get out there and become a people magnet with your amazing, valuable content!  It’s an easy feat when you get into the flow and you follow the strategies outlined above!

The Blog Mastery Training Intensive wrapped up last week and there are some amazing superstars that are now entering the blogging world with a BANG…

The course ended up being over 7 weeks long with more than 16 hours of jam packed value and content.  I taught everything from installing WordPress, plugins, widgets, writing powerful content, video, podcasting, social bookmarking, SEO (search engine optimization), Twitter and Facebook marketing, content syndication and tribe building, and of course, the success mindset… Not to mention live Q&A webinars each week and a special 2 1/2 hour bonus graduation webinar where I reviewed everyone’s blogs and gave them personal guidance and direction.

With over 80 students, we had such an amazing group of empowered, motivated, and talented entrepreneurs who truly made this course one of a kind.  Just about everyone in the group was not only committed to their own success, but also the success of the entire tribe we were forming… These students were able to build strong relationships and partnerships that will last a lifetime and form their very own TRIBE of people who are going to promote them and continue to help them succeed. 

A personal blog is essential to establishing your own brand in the online world and these 80 students now have a powerfully strong foundation laid for becoming top bloggers and social media entrepreneurs in our industry.  Their brands are only going to keep growing, evolving, and expanding and I’m so happy for each and every one of them!

I have to admit, researching and playing with WordPress plugins is definitely one of the most FUN aspects of blogging! When you first install WordPress.org, it comes as a blank slate… And so you are responsible for adding all of the different plugins, which add various features and functionalities to your blog.

There are thousands of plugins out there online today… Some will be add great value to your blog and some will just be unnecessary. It’s quite a bit of work and pretty time consuming to go through all of the countless plugins out there on the web and decipher which ones are relevant and which ones aren’t. So, if you’re a social media entrepreneur and you’re building a business for yourself online, I’ve put together my personal top 10 list of favorite plugins to help you optimize your blog in the best possible way!

To install a plugin, you just log into your WP dashboard, click on ‘Plugins’ in the left sidebar, and then click ‘Add New’.  From here, you can do a search for each of the plugins listed below.  When you find it, click on ‘Install’ on the right side of the screen, and then follow the prompts to install and activate your plugin… And voila!  It’s as simple as that!

Ok, so here are my top 10 favorite WordPress plugins…
(In no particular order really):

1.  Tweetmeme ~ This is the Twitter icon you see on this post both at the beginning and the end.  It helps visitors ‘Re-tweet’ (share your post on Twitter) your content and it also tracks it nicely, so you have great social proof on your blog!

2.  What Would Seth Godin Do ~ This is a plugin that actually cookies visitors and tracks who’s new and who’s returning.  You can then craft welcome messages accordingly… See the welcome message at the beginning of this post for an example.

3.  Viper’s Video Quicktags ~ This plugin will help you easily embed videos onto your blog from Youtube, Google, Vimeo, Viddler, and other top video sharing communities.

4.  Sociable ~ This is one of many possible content sharing plugins that you can add to your blog posts to encourage readers to syndicate (or share) your content on other social networking and bookmarking sites.  Other popular ones:  ShareThis and I Love Social Bookmarking.

5.  Tiny MCE Advanced ~ This plugin gives you ‘Microsoft Word-like’ functions when writing your posts… Very helpful when it comes to paragraph spacing, font size, and other various typing features.

6.  Comment Re-Direct ~ You can direct first time commenters to a page of your choice thanking them for their support and feedback… Great for relationship building!

7.  Commentluv ~ This is the plugin you see on my post here that showcases commenters latest blog posts with a little heart icon.  It helps drive traffic back to your commenters’ sites and encourages more people to want to comment on your blog!

8.  WP Related Posts ~ This is a plugin that lists related posts down below each blog post… Very helpful in encouraging multiple post reading!

9.  WP Super Cache ~ The more plugins you install, the slower your blog load time will get… So this plugin will help speed up the load time of your blog.

10.  Pretty Link ~ This is a plugin I found recently thanks to one of my amazing Blog Mastery students, Kary Rogney.  It will help you drive traffic to your tribe members’ blogs. Your tribe is a group of people who are your peers and whom you have built a strategic partnership with. You promote them, they promote you… Everybody wins! If a picture is worth a thousand words… Why not always make sure you leave your beautiful face on every blog comment you make?

Leaving comments on other people’s blogs is a great way to get more industry wide exposure and to become more ‘recognizable’ in the community.  You can also drive quite a bit of traffic back to your site if you leave intelligent and thoughtful comments on highly trafficked blogs…

But if you don’t include your picture next to your comment, you probably won’t be recognized very much at all.  If you want to make the MOST out of your blog comments and become more well-known in the blog communities, you’ve gotta include your picture. It’ll help people identify you more easily and recognize you throughout the different blog sites you visit.
