Story telling is truly at the CORE of our human experience… the stories we tell create and shape our world.

As young children, we LOVE having our parents or teachers tell us stories… When we’re watching a movie or reading a novel, it’s the power of the story that touches, moves, or inspires us. And if you think about it, everyone and everything has a story to tell…

The universe has it’s infinite stories of creation. Every single person has their unique life stories that make up who they are today. Art, dance, music, and every other creative expression has a story behind it.

And as an entrepreneur, whether you are writing, speaking, or simply having a conversation with a friend or business partner, story telling is an ESSENTIAL ingredient to powerful communication. If you look at the most successful speakers and writers that exist in our world, for the most part, they are all amazing story tellers.

It’s your stories that set you apart. It’s your stories that captivate your audience. And it’s your stories that convey and illustrate your message more powerfully than anything else. So as you can see, it’s incredibly important to develop the skill of story telling if you want to create a successful online business.

While attending the “Inspiring Speaker” workshop in San Francisco, I learned all about story telling from a few different master story tellers. And there were 3 key tips that really stood out for me and have already greatly improved my story telling abilities!

11 Tips For A Successful, Rockin’ 2011!

So it’s a new year, and with every new year comes new opportunities, new goals, and new possibilities.

Now, I know that most people set new years resolutions and end up forgetting about them by mid January or so. So what does it take to follow through with your new intentions? How can you really make this year the most successful one yet? Well, I’m going to share 11 tips with you today for a rockin’ 2011!

Tip #1: Create a powerful vision.

So what do you really want to create in 2011? Most people will set goals for how much money they want to make in their businesses or what kind of results they’re looking for… and that’s great. But I also want to encourage you to really look at the big picture vision of what’s possible for you in this upcoming year.

What kind of impact do you want to make? How do you want to give back, serve, inspire, or help others? When you focus on how you can have the most impact for others, and see beyond just yourself and your immediate needs, wants, and desires, your vision becomes charged with power. And it becomes so much more real to you… Tony Robbins says that we will always do more for others than we will ever do for ourselves. So what are you here to contribute?

So what’s your vision? Right it down. By the end of the year, how many people do you want to impact? How do you want them to feel? How do YOU want to feel? What kind of person will you need to become in order for that to happen? Set an intention for what you want and then let go of the “how”. When your vision is aligned with purpose, the universe will take care of the rest for you!

Now, that doesn’t mean you won’t need to take action… because daily action is necessary. But you don’t always need to know how something is going to happen, you just need to get clear on the “what”.

After you write it down, focus on it… see it, feel it, affirm it. The more you experience this as a reality NOW, the more your subconscious will work to bring it to fruition. So practice feeling so accomplished and proud when it December 2011 comes around and you’ve not only met your goals, but you’ve exceeded them!

Tip #2: Commit to a new way of being.

So in order for your vision and intentions to manifest, a shift needs to happen within YOU. Most often, entrepreneurs will set financial goals without really looking at how they will need to transform or change in order to make them happen.

We are all creatures of comfort. There’s a natural human tendency to cling to what’s known and what’s comfortable. So when we want to take our businesses to the next level and reach new goals, there’s going to be discomfort because we’re stretching beyond where we’ve previously gone before. And unless we can commit to a new way of being, that tendency will snap us back to our old habits before we even get off the ground.

So make it a priority to commit to a new way of being. Who do you need to become in order to create what you want? Do you need to be more trusting, patient, open, receptive, self-disciplined, focused, organized, or committed? And what old way of being are you going to need to release?

In order for you to create what you want and manifest your goals and intentions, it all starts with you. You are always the source of your own success. What’s important is that you make a declaration to yourself that this is the way you now are. And commit to it. Tell your friends and family that that’s how you are now. Make it public and put a little skin in the game!

Now, this doesn’t meant you won’t ever falter or fall off the wagon… because I’m telling you right now that that will happen. Our old ways of being can be quite tempting and it will take some time to make more of a permanent shift. So just notice when you’re not on track, and recommit in that moment. Keep recommitting as much as it takes until you make a real shift.

Tip #3: Have compassion for yourself.

So when you do fall off the wagon, make a conscious choice not to judge yourself or talk down on yourself. One of the biggest reasons most people don’t follow through with their goals or resolutions is that when they do snap back to their old way of being, they get extremely hard on themselves and quit.

So please please please… have compassion for yourself! Most of us have such a tendency to be much harder on ourselves than we are on other people. It’s your responsibility to have compassion for yourself… and it’s a practice that may not come easy at first, but will make a HUGE difference. So let go of the self-criticism and judgment and relax! No one’s perfect… perfectionism is an illusion.

If you really want to follow through, have compassion for yourself and again, like I said in tip #2, just recommit. And keep recommitting as many times as it takes!

Tip #4: Create a personal power practice.

Isn’t it funny how we can be so motivated to achieve our goals when we first set them, but then slowly after time, that motivation gets weaker and weaker? Somehow, we forget how fired up we were and how important it was to us. Again, it’s very tempting to fall back into our old, comfortable habits. It’s not easy to change, to transform, and to create something new.

So how do you keep yourself fired up and motivated? Well, my suggestion is to create a personal power practice that invigorates and inspires you on a daily basis. What can you incorporate into your daily routine that keeps you motivated and reminded about your goals and intentions?

Maybe listening to Tony Robbins gets you raring to go in the morning… or maybe it’s Jim Rohn. Or maybe you get super inspired by reading books on personal growth or financial success. Or maybe re-reading your goals or looking at your vision board helps keep you motivated. Whatever it is, do it on a daily basis. Make a commitment to keep yourself in the game by feeding your spirit with the necessary inspiration and encouragement to keep at it and continue moving forward. You fuel your own power, so don’t forget to make this a priority!

Tip #5: Get in your body.

This is a big one. Most everything we do as entrepreneurs is extremely mind-heavy. Sitting in front of the computer, thinking, analyzing, planning, strategizing, marketing, implementing… it’s all mind! Our minds are an amazing tool and a gift… but when we hang out up there all day long, we can get a bit “strung out” on mental noise and energy.

And when that happens, we lose touch with our inner voice, guidance, and wisdom. The mind can build up quite a momentum with our 60,000 + thoughts that we have on a daily basis. So to bring balance into your life and bring you back to your core essence, it’s so crucial that you get into your BODY.

So that means walk, run, lift weights, do yoga, stretch… Give your mind a break and give some energy and attention to your body everyday. It’s even helpful to take some quiet time and just FEEL the inside of your body. Feel how alive your cells are and how much wisdom is within you. The mind doesn’t need to soak up all of your attention! When you’re in your body, you tap into a wisdom and inner knowing that’s beyond the mind… and you will become much more connected, creative, and productive!

Tip #6: Touch it once.

This is a phrase that I learned from one of my coaches, Marie Forleo. And I will admit, this is not my strong suit… but I still make a conscious effort to “touch things once”. Procrastination is a big energy drain. When you put things off til later, it’s like constantly carrying around a big heavy weight on your shoulders because things never get fully completed.

So make it a habit to only touch things once. Respond to emails right away (but don’t check email all day long, that’s extremely unproductive!), pay bills as soon as you get them, keep your space organized, and do everything you can AHEAD of time!

Not only does this make you more productive, but it frees up your energy in unbelievable ways!

Tip #7: Ask for what you need.

This tip has made such a big difference in my life and business…

If you don’t ask for what you need, how do you ever expect to get it? Ask the Universe (or whatever name you use for God, Spirit, Divine Light, Source) for what you need to accomplish your goals. Do you need a business partner, team members, a fresh idea, a solution to a problem? Ask and you shall receive.

This applies within relationships as well. People can’t read your mind. Ask for what you want or need from your intimate partner, business partner, friends, family, and anyone else close to you in life. When we don’t ask for what we want, we silently resent the fact that we’re not getting it. And it’s no one’s fault but your own. When you empower yourself to just ask, you get what you need and can keep moving forward!

Tip #8: Build momentum daily.

Your business is not a hobby, so don’t treat it like one! You need to take action on a daily basis to keep moving forward and building momentum. If you invest a couple hours one day and then don’t touch things again until the following week, you’re leaking energy everywhere. It takes daily, consistent action to build up momentum.

Even if you just invest 30 minutes a day into your business, make sure you stick to it every single day! Even the smallest of action steps taken consistently will produce results and build momentum. And in the beginning, your business is going to require the most effort on your part. If you don’t build up the momentum, you’ll always be stuck in the “pushing the boulder up the hill” phase. Momentum is what drives your business, so make daily action a big priority!

Tip #9: Celebrate even the smallest of successes.

You know that old quote, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars”?

It’s so true! Set your goals, your intentions, and commit to your new way of being… and if you don’t quite make it there, that’s ok. Celebrate even the smallest of victories along your journey, because really, it’s the growth that really matters.

If your goal is to make an extra $1,000 and in the next month, you make $400, celebrate it! Turn on the music in your room and dance, go out for a nice dinner, or go to the movies. Celebrate your success in a way that’s meaningful to you!

And of course, when you do reach your goal of $1,000, have an even bigger celebration! Now, I’m not saying you need to go spend the money, but celebrate in a way that is nurturing to you. Congratulate yourself!

All too often, we forget to celebrate or feel good about our progress… and then our goals start to become far removed from our sense of joy. Life is meant to be a celebration. Even if you just figured out how to set up your blog for the first time, celebrate it! It’s an important step in the right direction!

Tip #10: Be present.

When you’re in your head and thinking about either the past or the future, you’re not really here… you’re not really present and engaged with life. When you’re not present, you’re living in a conceptualized version of reality and none of that is real!

The past does not exist and neither does the future because the only thing that’s ever real is here and now. It’s always now, we never actually arrive in the future. And the present moment is where your true power lies. When you’re fully present, you have access to your intuition, to your higher wisdom. And you get things done a heck of a lot faster! When you’re not in your head pre-planning, pre-meditating, analyzing, regretting, etc… you give yourself the space to allow your spontaneous creativity and wisdom to flow through you and into what you do.

You are a creative genius… but you can only really access that when you’re PRESENT!

Tip #11: Choose to be happy now.

And of course, what’s most important is that you are happy here and now no matter what’s going in your life, how much money you’re making, or what you have or have not achieved. If you’re looking for happiness anywhere outside of yourself, you’ll never find it. If you catch yourself saying or thinking, “I’ll be happy when…”, stop immediately and realign yourself with the truth.

And the truth is that the joy of life is here and now, in this very moment, no matter what’s going on. You are the source of your own happiness, no one can ever give it to you or take it away. When you expect someone or something else to make you happy, you’re giving your power away. And you’ll always be disappointed. Don’t ever forget that happiness is an inside job!

And of course, when you’re naturally happy and secure within yourself, realizing your goals becomes so much easier! You stop arguing and resisting life, which means that life is able to flow through you with ease and grace. Success does not have to be a struggle… in fact, it’s so much easier than most people think! Success and wealth flows to those who don’t need it to be happy.

With just a few clicks of a button, you make everything ‘LIVE’ and open the flood gates. You sit back and watch as new sales and customers come rushing in. If you’ve never experienced the thrill of doing your own product launch, you are seriously MISSING out on one of the most rewarding, exciting, and empowering aspects of being an online entrepreneur. But product launches are not only for entrepreneurs… In fact, Hollywood does it to launch multi-million dollar blockbuster movies. Apple’s done it to launch the iPod, the iPhone, and now the iPad.

The first time I did a launch, it was for a new home business opportunity that I was building… And because of the momentum and excitement that I had created during the launch, I was able to recruit over 80+ people personally within less than 60 days.

The second time I did a launch, it was for a blogging coaching program that I had created. And that resulted in over $31,000 in sales within a matter of 2 hours! And the last product launch I did resulted in over $160,000!

Each time I did a launch, my belief in my own power to create and manifest grew stronger and stronger. And each success built momentum and fuel for the next launch, and the next. It really is so DARN EMPOWERING!

And to be honest, it’s really not difficult to do. Now, don’t get me wrong… I’m not saying that you won’t need to step up, take action, and work… Because you definitely will! But it’s really a simple formula that anyone with the right level of motivation and commitment can easily achieve.

So how do you do it?

Well, today I’d like to give you my 5 step formula to rocking out your own wildly successful product launch! Now, please note that this formula CAN be applied to just about ANY business opportunity, affiliate program, or your own products, services, or membership sites.

It’s practically UNLIMITED with the number of ways in which you can use it. And it’s really the essence of what Internet marketing and entrepreneurship is really all about! So take good notes… And enjoy!

Step 1: Build a Targeted List

Whether you plan on launching a business opportunity, an affiliate program, or your own products and/or services, you want to think about who your target audience is. Who will your customers be? What are they looking for and how can you help them?

It’s incredibly important to be very targeted with who you are marketing to… Because if you’re not, it’ll be like marketing cosmetics to a group of football players… No matter how appealing your offer is, no one’s gonna want to buy it!

Once you get clear on what kind of offer you want to promote and who you’re marketing to, you can start building a targeted list, or following of people. This means getting out there on the search engines, in the social networks, and/or other web spaces, and driving traffic back to your website or your blog. Focus on traffic generating strategies that drive targeted people (potential customers who would be interested in what you’re selling) back to your site and from there, capture them onto an email list.

You can see right here on my blog that I have an ‘optin gift’ over on the right hand side. This helps me to build my own targeted list of followers because I’m giving away incredible value in exchange for joining my email newsletter. You’ll want to think about what kind of free gift you can also give away to encourage visitors to opt-in to your email list. You can use a simple autoresponder program like Get Response or Aweber to capture emails and manage them. From here, you have the ability to follow up with your list by sending out emails whenever you’d like (My suggestion is at least twice a week, but we’ll get into that more in step 2).

If you ask any serious internet entrepreneur where the big money is in this industry, they’ll most likely tell you that the real money is in THE LIST… It’s in cultivating a database of people who know you, follow you, trust you, and whom you can market to when you launch a new product. Don’t expect to have a massively successful product launch without PEOPLE to market to! And one of the big reasons these product launches are so successful is that you are not doing a promotion to cold traffic… You are selling to people whom you already have a relationship with!

But just having a list of leads does NOT automatically mean you’re good to go here… Cultivating a real relationship with your list is really the most important factor in building a following… So how do you do that? Well that leads me to step #2…

Step 2: Consistently Give Valuable Content To Your Followers

This step is really what separates the ROCK STARS who make loads of money for years to come from the “one hit wonders” who do okay once or twice, but then fall off the face of the Internet. You CANNOT expect to grow a profitable list WITHOUT giving consistent value and content. If you think you can just ‘sell stuff’ all the time, you’re wrong.

The new age of internet marketing and entrepreneurship is all about giving VALUE. The more you give away for free (in the form of blog posts, videos, articles, etc.), the more your followers are going to WANT to continue following you. So be consistent with sharing tips, techniques, skill sets, insights, or anything else that helps your list get to where they’re looking to be. This is why I’m such a big advocate of blogging… You can brand yourself, demonstrate your leadership, showcase your value-based blog posts, and become such a ‘go-giver’, that people naturally want to follow you, join your list, and listen to your recommendations when you promote or sell something… And of course, it demonstrates social proof and also helps to drive automated traffic through social media syndication.

But in any case, make sure you’re giving your list valuable content at least once or twice a week if you can. Make it a priority! It’ll make all the difference in the world when it comes time for your first (or next) product launch!

Step 3: Create Your Offer

Like I said before, you can use this formula to launch a business opportunity, an affiliate program, or your own products. So step 3 is really getting clear about your offer. If you’re a network marketer and your focus is on building your organization, you’ll want to create a special launch offer for people to join you in your business opportunity. This can mean putting together a coaching package for new partners, taking on 10 new people who you plan to mentor personally, or any other offer you want to create.

If you’re doing an affiliate promotion, you don’t need to worry about creating any offer, it’s pretty much done for you! You’ll just want to come up with your own bonuses or added benefits to people buying this product through your unique affiliate link.

If you’re doing your own product launch, you’ll definitely need to put some more time and effort into crafting an irresistible offer for your list. Get very clear on exactly what they are looking for and how you can be a ‘solution’ to help them get what they want. You can create your own coaching program, an ebook, a teleseminar series, a webinar course, a video training program, a membership site, or anything else you can think of! But just make sure your offer is relevant to your audience and the price point matches their level of desire for what you are offering.

After you create your offer and you set aside a launch date, contact the people in your niche who you’d like to be joint-venture partners of yours (other affiliates who will help you promote during your launch). But just make sure they are people whom you already have a relationship with and you’ve already helped them out in some way or another. Then, get ready for launch time!!

Step 4: Create Pre-Launch Buzz and Momentum

This is a very crucial component to the formula. If you notice, when Hollywood comes out with a new big blockbuster film, they never just open the doors one day and say, ‘Ok, everyone! Here it is!’ They very carefully and masterfully plan out each and every bit of pre-launch momentum, building up to the ‘grand opening night’.

They do trailers and previews, giving away some of their ‘best scenes’ to get everyone juiced up and excited for the launch. There are usually loads of commercials, billboards, and other advertisements to get everyone thinking about and waiting for the movie release…

And the purpose of all of this? So that on opening night, there are lines of people around every movie theatre in the country waiting to see the new blockbuster film. And it works!

So you want to create a similar type of pre-launch buzz and momentum in your business. Do a 4-7 day ‘teaser’ where you give people some of your best, valuable content that they’ll find in the course or product you’re selling. Get them excited, passionate, and on the edge of their seat for MORE.

Release one piece of free content per day and build momentum to the next one. And then, towards the end of the pre-launch week, give them the product details, the price, the opening date and time, and the FAST-ACTION bonuses for people who order first. And definitely make sure you include some sort of (I don’t like this word, but I’ll use it anyway because it emphasizes the point) “scarcity” strategy…

This means giving people either a time deadline by which they can order, a limit on the number of spots that can be filled, or special price that’s only for a limited time. This helps people decide to take action quickly!

Throughout this pre-launch phase, if you do it correctly, you’ll also be creating an ENORMOUS amount of social buzz… This means people will be talking about you, sharing your content, and pretty much helping you promote your launch FOR you! As an example, take a look at the ‘buzz’ that was created for me during my last launch:

I made it to the top of Alexa’s ‘What’s Hot’ list during my launch because of all the buzz and momentum I had built! And when you take action on this formula, you can absolutely create the same type of buzz if not more!

And by following these pre-launch strategies, you’ll magnetize crowds of people who will be waiting by their computers for the moment you open your doors!

Step 5: Launch Day (Aka: The Big Money Day!)

This is where all of the work, focus, and energy really pays off! On launch day, you literally make everything LIVE with a few clicks of a button, sit back, and watch the money and sales come pouring in. Of course, the extent of the money you make is dependent on the size and quality of your list, the quality of your offer, and how well you designed the launch process.

After the launch day, you’ll want to have a follow up campaign in place for maybe a week or so afterwards. Send out testimonials from people who are in the course or have purchased the program already, and keep the excitement going until you close your doors (or end your special offer).

You seriously have UNLIMITED potential to make any amount of money you want for yourself when you follow the ‘launch formula’.

But clearly, there are a TON of details that I WASN’T able to cover in this post today. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to crafting the right offer, writing your sales page (or making a sales video), coming up with pre-launch content, how to approach affiliate partners, how to create viral buzz during your launch, how to create irresistible bonuses, etc. etc.

In fact, having a launch mentor or coach who can guide you through this process is honestly the BEST INVESTMENT you can really make. One single tip or strategy can make you an extra $20,000 or more! (And I’m not kidding!)

And of course, when you have top search engine rankings, you can drive high quality traffic to your site absolutely for free. But in order to get top rankings in the search engines, you have to pay attention to the PAGE RANK of your blog.

Page rank is a way that Google ranks the authority or importance of your site. The higher your page rank, the more of an ‘authority’ you are. And when you have a high authority site, you will get search engine rankings more easily… In fact, you actually have priority over other sites.

I’ve had many top marketers and SEO (search engine optimization) experts ask me how I was able to get such a high page rank in such a short period of time (It usually takes a few months for Google to even ‘register’ you and getting to a PR of 5 is not something that most sites ever achieve).
